Excellent site ! ! Well written and detailed.

One thing I'd like to know please: is it permissible that the light switch for the new laundry I am making, also controls another light that happens to be outside of this new room?.
I am turning the one side of my basement into a laundry but there is a single light on this circuit that is just outside of the new wall. (Finished ceiling in basement) so also turns on if I switch on the laundry light.
Help appreciated. Thank you.

It is not a problem - it's often the way it is. There should be a ground rod however. The correct location for it is near the meter.

I checked your site to learn why some 220 circuits did not have the neutral wire. informative, thank you.
I do have a question, I recently noticed, while trouble shooting a recent dead circuit in my main house panel, that the ground (bare) and white (neutral) wires in the box share the same connecting bar, they are all conected together? is this a problem? I thought the bare and or green wires, and the white neutral wires should be separate??? and I noticed no apparent ground rod anywhere. interested in your opinion, thanks, bob. res_bob@yahoo.com
